My methods

I have a client centered, integrative approach to therapy. I draw on methods of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Somatic Experiencing, ACT (Acceptance Commitment Therapy), EFT (Emotion-Focused Therapy), Gottman Methods and psychodynamic theories and techniques.

I believe it is important to explore broader systems impacting individuals, including family, friends, religion, community and culture.

I keep up-to-date with the latest research on neuroscience and evidenced based treatment practices. I have additional education and earned certifications for the treatment of substance abuse/addiction and trauma.

EMDR

EMDR is currently one of the most effective methods of trauma treatment available, helping people access and accelerate their own natural healing process at a deeper level. You may be asking, what on earth is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy method which incorporates the use of dual attention and alternating bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, auditory tones) to help people process memories that become “stuck in time”. The goal is healing, reducing symptoms and emotional pain that are the result of disturbing life experiences. EMDR is used to turn negative beliefs that we have about ourselves into positive ones, fundamentally changing how we see ourselves and the world.

EMDR can be used for a variety of issues: anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, phobias and many other problems.

EMDR was developed in the 1980’s and has more scientific research as a treatment for trauma than any other non-pharmaceutical intervention.

EMDR can be used in many different ways. It can be used in long term therapy to work through past traumas or negative life experiences. It can also be used for brief intensive therapy for a recent traumatic event.

I have specialized training in EMDR. If you are interested in knowing more, let’s talk, and we can explore if this is a good option for you.
